Going Shopping

We asked where people did their shopping.

Three-quarters of villagers head for Faversham to do the “weekly” groceries shopping. But for larger purchases - like major household items - half the village are likely to make Canterbury their first choice.

Faversham is also the main place where people get newspapers, last minute items and take-aways. However Newnham’s small shop also does well for newspapers. And some see Lenham as a good place for take-aways.

Tesco/Iceland Delivery Service

Whilst many mourn the demise of the village shop, the home delivery services now offered by some supermarket chains seem to be providing a useful alternative. Over a fifth of households in the survey had tried this type of shopping.
